Plastic & Aesthetic Surgery
Blepharoplasty in Brescia: a rested look, not a different one.
Blepharoplasty corrects excess skin on the upper eyelids and bags on the lower eyelids: the signs that make your eyes look tired even when you are not. At Palazzo Manzoni in Brescia, the aim is to restore freshness to the eye area without altering the shape of your eyes.
At Palazzo Manzoni in Brescia, the lead surgeon for blepharoplasty is Dr. Nicolò Manuini, specialist in Plastic Surgery, within the Face Surgery team headed by Dr. Enrico Motta with Dr. Stefano Di Nonno and Dr. Luana Salvagni. The department offers a complete clinical and surgical pathway, ranging from surgery of the eyes and periorbital area (blepharoplasty, eyelid ptosis correction, treatment of ectropion and entropion) to surgery of the nose, with aesthetic and functional rhinoplasty and rhinoseptoplasty. It extends to facial contouring and rejuvenation through neck and facelift, temporal lift, midface (cheek) lift and facial fat grafting (lipofilling), as well as the shaping of profile and volumes through additive malaroplasty, additive or reductive mentoplasty, otoplasty and lip lift. The excellence of the techniques used and the personalisation of each treatment ensure natural, safe and long-lasting results.

The Discipline
The eyes are the first place tiredness shows.
Heavy upper eyelids, bags under the eyes, a hollow tear trough: these are the earliest signs of facial ageing, and the most visible. They often appear early, sometimes because they run in the family, and no cream truly corrects them.
A “tired” look can depend on different structures: excess skin, herniation of the orbital fat, a descended brow or laxity of the muscle. The consultation is there to tell these factors apart, because each one calls for a different surgical approach.
The journey begins with a complete analysis of the area around the eyes (eyelids, eyebrows, skin quality, visual function), from which a personalised plan is drawn up: upper, lower or combined blepharoplasty, together with any associated procedures.
Did you know?
The fat beneath the eye, which is treated in lower blepharoplasty, is rarely a single block. In an anatomical study of 60 orbits, in 60.0% of cases it was divided into three distinct compartments, medial, central and lateral; in only 1.7% did it present as a single pad.

What Makes Our Approach Different
From analysing your eyes to a personalised surgical plan
Identifying the real cause of a tired appearance (skin, orbital fat, the position of the brow or of the eyelid margin) is what distinguishes a well-indicated blepharoplasty from a standardised one.
The same appearance can stem from different factors: a “heavy” eyelid may be due to the skin, the muscle or a true ptosis of the eyelid margin, which requires a specific correction.
This is why the visit always includes a complete oculoplastic assessment, including visual function when excess skin reduces the upper field of vision: an aspect that is functional too, not only aesthetic.

01
An anatomical consultation
Clinical examination, photographic documentation and a layer-by-layer anatomical analysis of the tissues: the essential foundation before any surgical proposal.
02
Transparency and assessment of suitability
Clinical transparency guides every consultation. We propose an operation only when the anatomical and ethical conditions for a harmonious and safe result are in place, and we advise against procedures that are not suitable.
03
A dedicated pathway
your lead doctor and their team will look after you from the first consultation to post-operative follow-up.
04
Conservative by choice
Conservative planning and the rigour to advise against unsuitable procedures are the fundamental safeguards for reducing risk and protecting the patient.

“Blepharoplasty is one of the most-requested face operations and one of the easiest to do badly. Done well, the result is a face that other people read as rested. Done badly, the result is a face that other people read as operated. The difference is anatomical literacy applied conservatively, every time.”
The Procedures
The technical choices in blepharoplasty
Blepharoplasty is indicated when the anatomy around the eyes allows a natural, stable result: the assessment covers skin, muscle, orbital fat and the position of the eyelids and eyebrows.
The decisive variable is not the technique alone but the diagnosis: understanding which structure is causing the tired appearance is what makes it possible to correct it in a targeted, lasting way.
→Upper blepharoplasty
the measured removal of excess skin (and, if necessary, small amounts of muscle and fat) from the upper eyelid, with the incision hidden in the natural crease.
→Lower blepharoplasty
treatment of bags and laxity of the lower eyelid, via a transconjunctival or transcutaneous approach, with possible redistribution of fat into the tear trough.
→Combined blepharoplasty
correction of the upper and lower eyelids in a single operation, when both contribute to the tired appearance of the eyes.
→Correction of ptosis, ectropion and entropion
functional oculoplastic procedures (repositioning of the eyelid margin and correction of eyelid malpositions), performed on their own or combined with blepharoplasty.
Your consultation will clarify which technique suits your eyes.

Common Questions
Frequently asked questions
about blepharoplasty
Does blepharoplasty change the shape of the eyes?
The aim is a rested look, not a different eye shape: a well-performed blepharoplasty removes what weighs the eyes down, while respecting the natural shape of the eyelid opening and the expression of the face.
Who performs blepharoplasty at Palazzo Manzoni?
Blepharoplasty at Palazzo Manzoni is performed by Dr. Nicolò Manuini, specialist in Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery with dedicated periorbital training and the lead surgeon for blepharoplasty, within the face surgery team headed by Dr. Enrico Motta. The same surgeon handles the consultation, the procedure and the follow-up visits.
Does blepharoplasty leave visible scars?
In the upper eyelid the incision is hidden in the natural crease; for the lower eyelid the approach can be transconjunctival, from the inside of the eyelid, or transcutaneous, depending on the anatomy. These are areas where scars become almost imperceptible within twelve months, bearing in mind that full maturation takes up to a year and varies from person to person: we discuss this clearly during the informed consent stage.
How long is the social downtime after blepharoplasty?
In most cases it is a matter of a few days, although the duration has to be assessed case by case: an upper, a lower and a combined blepharoplasty do not follow the same course, and swelling and bruising around the eyes resolve at an individual pace. At the end of the process you will receive a personalised plan with a detailed outline of the healing stages for your operation.
What anaesthesia is used for blepharoplasty?
As a rule we proceed under sedation, but this is something we assess case by case, because an isolated upper blepharoplasty and an associated oculoplastic correction, such as repositioning of the eyelid margin, do not have the same requirements. We operate in our Day Surgery theatres, and most patients go home the same day or, at most, after one night of observation. The right approach for your case is then confirmed at the planning stage.
Can a non-surgical treatment replace blepharoplasty?
Excess skin on the upper eyelids and bags on the lower eyelids are among the earliest signs of facial ageing, and the most visible: no cream truly corrects them. A non-surgical treatment does not remove excess skin and does not redistribute herniated orbital fat; when excess skin starts to reduce the upper field of vision, the issue also becomes functional. The consultation exists precisely to tell apart the factors involved, because each one calls for a different approach.
At what age is blepharoplasty performed?
There is no set age. Blepharoplasty is usually performed between the ages of forty and seventy, but signs around the eyes often appear early, sometimes because they run in the family, and in that case it may be indicated sooner. The right moment is not determined by age: it coincides with a genuine anatomical indication, which the consultation assesses together with the position of the eyelids and eyebrows and visual function.
How much does blepharoplasty cost?
At Palazzo Manzoni, blepharoplasty starts from €3,600 for the upper or the lower eyelids and from €6,000 for upper and lower eyelids in the same operation, with surgeon, anaesthesia, operating theatre and follow-up reviews included. The exact figure depends on the extent of the operation, the operating theatre time and any associated oculoplastic procedures: at the end of your first visit, once the treatment plan has been defined, we give you a detailed written estimate. All prices are on our plastic surgery costs page.
