Dr. Alessandro Boldini is an ophthalmologist with clinical expertise spanning cataract and refractive surgery, and a particular specialisation in age-related macular degeneration (AMD) — both dry and wet forms. His practice brings advanced diagnostic imaging to the diagnosis and surveillance of retinal disease, with an emphasis on early detection and long-term management strategy.

In cataract and refractive surgery, he performs phacoemulsification with standard and premium multifocal IOLs, laser refractive procedures (PRK, LASIK, SMILE), and phakic ICL lens implantation. In retinal disease, he uses optical coherence tomography (OCT), angiography, and optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) to characterise AMD progression and guide treatment planning and follow-up.

Every eye examination includes retinal imaging appropriate to the patient’s age and risk factors. Many cases of AMD are caught only because imaging was done.

Advanced imaging as standard

OCT, angiography, and OCTA are routine tools to detect and monitor retinal change, not optional extras.

Long-term surveillance strategy

AMD is a chronic disease. His approach is to establish a baseline, schedule appropriate follow-up intervals, and act decisively when change is detected.
