Liposuction: correcting contour, not weight
28.01.2026

Liposuction, or lipoaspiration, is the procedure that removes localized fat accumulations using thin cannulas connected to a suction system. Its purpose is to correct body contour in specific areas – hips, abdomen, thighs, knees – reshaping a more harmonious silhouette.
These accumulations have a specific characteristic: they are genetically programmed, largely defined during puberty, and are distributed in areas that vary from person to person. It is this programming that makes them so stubborn, resistant to diet and exercise even in those who maintain a healthy weight.
A misconception worth clarifying
Liposuction should not be confused with a weight-loss method. Contrary to what is sometimes believed, the procedure is not a treatment for obesity and does not replace a healthy lifestyle: it removes localized fat, not overall body weight. Confusing the two leads to mistaken expectations, and this is precisely what a proper evaluation must prevent.

The procedure targets well-defined accumulations: the ideal candidate is of normal weight and has good skin elasticity.
How it is performed
Depending on the extent of the treatment, liposuction is performed under local anesthesia with sedation or under general anesthesia. Cannulas are inserted through microincisions to suction the fat evenly; afterward, a compressive elastic garment is worn for several weeks, which supports tissue remodeling. Recovery generally takes one to two weeks, with bruising and swelling gradually subsiding.
Who it is suitable for
The ideal candidate is a person of normal weight with localized accumulations and, above all, good skin elasticity, allowing the skin to re-drape smoothly over the new contour. It is not indicated in cases of obesity or very lax skin, a situation in which a different procedure may be necessary, one also capable of removing excess skin.
Liposuction, then, delivers lasting results precisely when it is chosen for what it is: a contour correction, performed on a suitable candidate with realistic expectations, defined together during the consultation.
